Although down on numbers (due to senior exams at some schools), the three top graded senior girls in Hawke’s Bay were able to compete against each other for the title, making this a good competition. Third seed Ashley Harding (HGHS) had a hard fought win against second seed Catherine Sambrook before taking out the title by beating the C2 graded (ex Wellingtonian) Taylor Newbery.
Snr Girls: Catherine Sambrook; Ashley Harding; Taylor Newbery
In the Junior Girls competition Ella White from NGHS took out the title over Maggie Dever.
Jnr Girls: Ella White; Jamie Burkin (absent- Maggie Dever)
The boys competition was played at the Hastings Squash Club and featured 33 players. Unfortunately top seed (A grader) Todd Redman was out through illness, but the senior boys competition followed seeding with up and coming St Johns player William Hirst beating Brendan Sambrook from Havelock North in the final. 3rd place was Michael Owen from Lindisfarne over Jonty Dickinson from St John's College
Snr Boys: Brendan Sambrook; William Hirst; Michael Owen, Jonty Dickinson
The junior boys competition was won by Napier Boys High School’s Josh McConaghie over Mark Corkery from St Johns. 3rd place went to Cameron Smith of Napier Boys over Jake Smith from Havelock North.

Gisborne Secondary School League
The Secondary Schools squash league concluded on Tuesday 21 September 2010.
We had 18 students take part in a fun coaching/league session each Tuesday afternoon for 7 weeks. This started 10 August 2010. Because we are only a two court complex, the numbers were sufficient in order for us to adequately provide for the needs of the group.
The secondary league had benefits for these particular students as all were very new to the game and showed a keen interest.
A spin off of the league has been the continued interest of the students who we have given a two month trial period membership of which they are utilising our courts under the supervision of their teacher who is a member. This in itself gives us personal satisfaction in knowing the group enjoyed the experience to the point where they are keen to return once the new term commences.
Some of the students have also expressed an interest in obtaining their own personal membership, whilst their sports co-ordinator has already signed up with us!!!
Well done Audine.
